Background

Dr Anil Goudar is an Australian and internationally trained orthopaedic surgeon with a particular focus on hip and knee conditions. He provides non-operative and operative care for arthritis, sports injuries and fractures, with specialist interests in joint replacement, knee arthroscopy and reconstruction.

He has been based in the Shoalhaven since 2007 and has served the Illawarra and South Coast since 2016. At Joint Vision, his hip and knee practice forms part of a coordinated approach to assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.

Training and qualifications

Dr Goudar completed his medical degree at Karnatak University in 2000 and a master's degree in orthopaedic surgery at MS University in 2005. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in orthopaedic surgery and a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.

His further fellowship training includes hip and knee joint replacement, foot and ankle surgery, and bone and soft-tissue tumours. His qualifications are MBBS, MS-Orthopaedic, FRACS and FAOrthA.

Hip and knee surgery

Dr Goudar's joint replacement practice includes robot-assisted, computer-navigated and patient-specific total knee replacement. He also performs total hip replacement using direct anterior and posterior approaches.

His knee interests extend to ACL reconstruction and arthroscopy for selected injuries and conditions. The choice of treatment and surgical approach is considered in relation to the diagnosis and the patient's circumstances, rather than assuming that one technique suits everyone.

Assessment and recovery

Dr Goudar offers both surgical and non-surgical management. Assessment considers symptoms, imaging, mobility and the effect of the condition on daily activity, work and sport. Discussion includes treatment options and what preparation and recovery may involve.

At Joint Vision, care can be coordinated with on-site imaging, physiotherapy, exercise physiology, nursing and rehabilitation. This connects the specialist treatment plan with practical preparation, follow-up and recovery.

Dr Goudar also holds a public hospital appointment at Wollongong Hospital, alongside his private practice. The patient services team can explain the referral and booking arrangements for a consultation at Joint Vision.
