Five Years, 40 Jobs, And A New Model For Health: Thriving In Tough Times

Joint Vision Orthopaedic Group is marking its fifth anniversary with more than just cake and candles – it’s celebrating a story of resilience, innovation, and community impact that has reshaped musculoskeletal care in the Illawarra.

Founded in 2020, Joint Vision launched into one of the most challenging economic and health climates in modern history.

Yet in just five years, it has grown into a major Illawarra employer with more than 40 staff and contractors, treated thousands of patients, and built a first-of-its-kind integrated clinic model that’s drawing attention from across Australia.

"We started with a vision to completely reimagine how orthopaedic care is delivered," Wynter Dares, CEO of Joint Vision, said.

"Our integrated five-station clinic means patients can see the right specialists, have scans, and receive a treatment plan – all in one visit. It’s the fastest, most comprehensive orthopaedic consultation model in the country."

Not An Easy Five-Year Journey

The growth hasn’t come easy. Joint Vision opened its doors in the early days of COVID-19, weathered lockdowns, adapted to changing health regulations, and navigated cost-of-living pressures that forced many businesses to downsize or close.

Instead, the company expanded, adding services, recruiting specialist staff, and partnering with the University of Wollongong to deliver medical student education, research projects, and clinical placements.

The impact has reached well beyond its waiting rooms. Joint Vision supports local sport through partnerships and sponsorships, runs a fracture clinic to help ease emergency department pressures, and offers access to public patients through its clinics.

Looking ahead, Joint Vision plans to grow its research program, expand services, and continue developing innovative models of care that combine speed, accessibility, and world-class expertise.

"We’re proud of what we’ve built in our first five years," Mr Dares said.

"But this is just the start – the Illawarra has shown what’s possible when healthcare is designed for people, not systems."
