When something hurts, most people don’t immediately know what kind of clinician they need.
You might know your knee has been giving you trouble for months, your shoulder isn’t settling, or you’ve rolled an ankle and it still doesn’t feel right. But knowing whether you need an orthopaedic surgeon, physiotherapist, injury clinic or another service is another question altogether.
That’s one of the reasons Joint Vision has rebuilt its website.
The new site has been designed around a simple idea: start with the problem you recognise, and we’ll help you find the right next step.
Take a tour of the new website
Start with where it hurts
Rather than asking patients to work their way through a list of services or specialists, the new Joint Vision website allows you to begin with the area that’s causing trouble.
From there, you can explore the relevant care options, understand which clinicians may be able to help and find the pathway that best suits your situation.
So if it’s your knee, shoulder, foot, ankle or another musculoskeletal problem, that can be your starting point.
Sore knee? Rolled ankle? Shoulder giving you grief? Start there.
A simpler way to find the right care
Joint Vision brings together orthopaedic specialists, allied health, associated medical specialties and rehabilitation.
That means the right next step won’t always be the same for every patient.
For some people, it may be an appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon. For others, physiotherapy or another allied health service may be more appropriate. An acute injury may be better suited to the Fracture & Injury Clinic.
The new website is designed to make those options easier to understand before you book.
And if you’re still not sure?
You don’t need to work it all out yourself.
The Joint Vision Patient Services team can help if you’re unsure which clinician or service is right for you.
That human support remains an important part of the process. The website is there to make finding information easier, not to expect patients to diagnose themselves.
You can also use the site to find practical information before an appointment, learn more about the Joint Vision team and request an appointment online.
A dedicated section for referrers
The new website also includes a dedicated Referrer Hub for GPs and other health professionals.
It brings together clinician information, referral pathways and other practical information to make it easier to direct patients to the appropriate care.
Find the right place to start
If something has been hurting and you’re not sure what to do next, you don’t need to begin by choosing a specialist.
Begin with what you know.
Where does it hurt? What problem are you trying to solve?
From there, Joint Vision can help you find the right next step.
Information on this website is general and may not apply to your circumstances. It does not replace individual clinical advice. If you have a health concern, use the relevant care pathway or speak with a qualified health professional. Seek urgent help for severe or rapidly worsening symptoms or a possible emergency.
