Meet Rachel Nichols: Supporting Recovery Through Pilates Rehab in Wollongong

Recovery isn’t just about treatment — it’s about how you move.

For Rachel Nichols, an allied health assistant at Joint Vision, helping patients rebuild strength, confidence and control through movement is at the heart of what she does, particularly through pilates-based rehabilitation in Wollongong

From pilates to allied health

Rachel’s journey into allied health began with a passion for movement.

“I started doing pilates a few years ago and I fell in love with that type of movement,” she said.

"I decided to get my instructor rating, and I now teach group classes and studio-based pilates where we do rehab clients.”

She said she quickly developed a strong interest in how movement could support injury recovery, strength and overall wellbeing.

"I really fell in love with that side of pilates, helping clients through injury recovery or just feeling good in their body, and decided to learn more,” she said.

"I thought the allied health space would be a really great place to continue my journey.”

Helping patients move better through pilates

At Joint Vision, Rachel works closely with patients at different stages of recovery — from early rehabilitation through to long-term movement.

Whether someone is recovering from injury or working towards improving general fitness, her focus is on helping them move with greater confidence and control.

“I just love helping clients achieve their goals, whether it’s injury recovery or their main exercise goals of being a little bit stronger or better at balance” she said.

“Seeing their progression through that keeps me motivated to keep pushing people through.”

She said it means her pilates-based rehabilitation work has become an important part in recovery for some clients.

A connected approach to recovery

Rachel said at Joint Vision she was part of a team that brought together orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapy, allied health and on-site imaging — all in one place.

She said that meant patients could access assessment, treatment and rehabilitation in a more streamlined and supportive way.

“It just takes all the stress out of anyone’s rehabilitation journey,” she said.

For those undertaking pilates rehab in Wollongong, it ensures their recovery plan is coordinated from the beginning, helping reduce delays and improve outcomes.
