Fast-Tracking Recovery: Dr Laura Clarke on Allied Health and Research

For many orthopaedic patients, surgery is not the only answer.

In fact, about 70 per cent of people don’t require an operation at all — which is where Dr Laura Clarke, Director of Allied Health and Research at Joint Vision Orthopaedic Group, plays a pivotal role.

“Getting that buy-in from patients is really important,” Dr Clarke said.

“They need to know they can trust you and know you’ve got those shared goals and you’re both driven to achieve those outcomes.”

Dr Clarke leads the allied health team, providing rehabilitation services alongside adjunct therapies such as podiatry and exercise therapy.

The goal, she said, was to help patients get better through tailored, evidence-based care.

Delivering allied health care in one place

A key strength of Joint Vision’s model is its ability to deliver services in one place

“We can get a patient an X-ray and an ultrasound and straight away have a better diagnosis of what we’re dealing with,” Dr Clarke said.

“We’re not wasting time going to separate practices, then back to your GP, and then back for another scan.

“It's all under one roof, and then we can start rehab. So the process is fast-tracked.”

Beyond patient care, Dr Clarke is also passionate about innovation and research.

Joint Vision operates a not-for-profit research institute dedicated to advancing treatment approaches.

“We really want to showcase all the good things we are doing in the centre — the innovation, the up-to-date weight-bearing protocols, the advanced, accelerated rehab that we do here,” she said.

Her message to the community is simple: “For all your injury needs, come see me at Joint Vision.”
