Dr David Manoha on How Joint Vision Is Changing Pain Management

When patients walk through the doors of Joint Vision Orthopaedic Group in Wollongong, many come with one thing in common — pain.

As pain physician Dr David Manohar explains, pain is one of the most frequent reasons people seek medical care, yet it’s often one of the most complex issues to treat.

“The most common reason why a patient comes to a doctor is with pain,” Dr Manohar said.

“They want some treatment and help managing their pain — and I love helping them.”

A new model for patient care

Dr Manohar believes what sets Joint Vision apart is its multidisciplinary approach — a model that brings together surgeons, pain specialists, and allied health professionals all under one roof.

“Joint Vision is the first of its kind here,” he said.

“Most practices in Australia are usually single-specialty practices, but this is a multidisciplinary blended practice. That’s what makes it unique.”

This integrated setup means patients don’t have to navigate a maze of referrals or wait weeks between consultations.

Instead, they receive coordinated care designed to identify the source of pain and address it through the most effective pathway.

Understanding the source of pain

For Dr Manohar, an interventional pain and rehabilitation medicine physician specialising in spine, joint and musculoskeletal pain, effective pain treatment starts with trust and collaboration.

“Initially, you have to establish a rapport with the patient — that you understand their problem and that you’re here to help,” he said.

“Once we identify the pain generator, we use procedures, or surgery, or a combination with our allied health team to deliver a pain management program that helps them manage their pain.”

Treating acute, persistent and chronic pain, Dr Manohar’s approach blends clinical precision and minimally invasive treatments with compassion — ensuring each patient feels seen, supported, and understood.

“If you’ve got any pain issues, whether it’s musculoskeletal pain or other types of body pain,” he said, “Joint Vision is here for you.”
