The Moment Everything Starts to Make Sense: Meet Brenda, one of our radiographers
When patients walk into Joint Vision, they’re often carrying more than just an injury.
There’s uncertainty. Frustration. Sometimes even a bit of fear.
And more often than not, the turning point in their journey begins quietly with imaging.
For Brenda Mavundukure, that moment is why she does what she does.
Joint Vision radiographer Brenda Mavundukure.
From ‘no chemistry’ to finding her calling
Brenda didn’t always plan to become a radiographer.
“Pharmacy was my first choice,” she says, “but I soon discovered there was no chemistry between chemistry and myself.”
It turned out to be the best pivot she could have made.
Early in her training, she saw firsthand how powerful imaging could be.
“A patient came in with ongoing pain but no clear diagnosis. Seeing how imaging provided answers and direction for their treatment really stayed with me.”
That moment, when confusion turns into clarity, is still what drives her today.
It’s not just about the image, it’s about the person
Radiography is often seen as a technical role.
But ask Brenda what matters most, and her answer is immediate:
“The patient connection.”
She recalls supporting a patient who had never had imaging before and was visibly overwhelmed.
“Taking a few extra minutes to explain everything and reassure them completely changed their experience.”
By the end, the patient wasn’t just calmer, they felt confident.
That’s the difference Brenda brings: not just capturing images, but shaping the experience around them.
For many patients, imaging is the moment everything starts to make sense. Meet Brenda, whose calm and caring approach helps patients move from uncertainty to clarity.
Behind every scan is problem-solving
At Joint Vision, no two patients are the same and neither are their scans.
“People don’t always realise how much problem-solving happens behind the scenes,” Brenda explains.
“If someone has limited mobility or significant pain, we adapt positioning and technique to still get the best possible images.”
It’s a subtle but important point.
Good imaging isn’t just about machines. It’s about tailoring the process to the person in front of you.
Why imaging can change everything
For many patients, imaging is the moment things start to shift.
“I’ve seen patients come in feeling uncertain or frustrated,” Brenda says, “and once imaging provides clarity, everything starts to move forward from diagnosis, treatment planning, recovery.”
That clarity is what allows the wider Joint Vision team, surgeons, physios and podiatrists, to act quickly and confidently.
And in many cases, it’s what helps patients avoid unnecessary surgery altogether.
The power of a connected team
One of the things Brenda values most about Joint Vision is the way the team works together.
“Quick collaboration helps fast-track care for a patient. That shared purpose is something I really enjoy.”
It’s not just about getting an image.
It’s about what happens next and how quickly the right people can act on it.
Turning fear into confidence
If you’ve ever felt nervous before a scan, you’re not alone.
“A lot of patients apologise for being nervous,” Brenda says. “I always reassure them that it’s completely normal.”
Her approach is simple:
· Explain things clearly
· Check in throughout
· Guide patients step by step
“Even something small like talking them through each stage can shift their experience from fear to feeling supported.”
Beyond the clinic
Outside of work, Brenda’s impact continues.
She mentors young people through her church’s Adventure and Pathfinder programs, helping them build confidence, resilience and life skills.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see their growth over time.”
It’s also something that carries into her work, especially when supporting younger patients.
Recovery isn’t always linear and that’s okay
After years in healthcare, Brenda has seen every type of recovery journey.
Her advice to patients?
“Trust the process and be kind to yourself. Recovery isn’t always linear.”
“The people who stay consistent, ask questions, and lean on their care team tend to have the best outcomes.”
If you’re dealing with pain or injury, don’t wait for answers
One of the biggest barriers to recovery is uncertainty.
And often, the first step forward is simply understanding what’s going on.
At Joint Vision, our imaging and fracture clinic pathways are designed to give you that clarity quickly, so you can move forward with the right plan.
