Joint Vision Partners in New Preventative Health Venture Phoenix Health Co at Bruce Gordon Centre

A new era of preventative healthcare is coming to Wollongong, with Joint Vision Orthopaedic Group CEO Wynter Dares and co-founder Dr Meghan Dares partnering with Dr Oscar Horky and Katie Horky to launch Phoenix Health Co at the Bruce Gordon Centre

Set to officially open in July, Phoenix Health Co is designed to bridge the gap between traditional reactive healthcare and a more proactive, personalised approach focused on long-term health, performance and wellbeing.

Combining medicine, movement and recovery under one roof, the model integrates advanced medical oversight, exercise physiology, recovery services and data-driven health tracking to help people better understand their health before serious issues arise.

For Dr Oscar Horky, the concept has been years in the making.

A University of Wollongong medical graduate, former fitness professional and Australian Defence Force medical officer who served within Special Operations Command, Dr Horky has spent more than a decade working across general practice, emergency medicine and urgent care throughout the Illawarra.

It was those experiences, he says, that highlighted the need for a different approach to healthcare.

“Every day in medicine, you see people reaching a crisis point before they finally prioritise their health,” Dr Horky said.

“The current system is very good at reacting once something goes wrong, but there’s a huge gap when it comes to helping people stay well in the first place.”

“Phoenix was built around the idea that people need more than short appointments and fragmented advice. They need structure, accountability, education and a clear plan for their long-term health.”

Dr Horky said the vision for Phoenix Health Co centred around evidence-based preventative healthcare without the confusion and hype often associated with the wellness industry.

“There’s so much noise in health and wellness now. Our focus is on evidence-based medicine, movement and recovery strategies that genuinely improve people’s healthspan and quality of life.”

“We want people to better understand their body, their risk factors and what they can do now, not ten years from now, to improve their future health.”

Phoenix Health Co will offer a comprehensive Foundational Assessment as the starting point for every patient journey, including advanced blood testing, DEXA body composition scanning, ECG analysis, wearable data review, mental health screening and personalised preventative health planning.

From there, patients can move into tailored 12-month programs focusing on:

  • preventative health and vitality

  • weight optimisation

  • women’s hormonal health

  • men’s health over 40

  • healthy ageing

  • and peak performance.

Joint Vision co-founder Dr Meghan Dares said the partnership reflected a shared philosophy around long-term health, movement and empowering people to take control of their wellbeing earlier.

“What really resonated with us was the proactive approach Oscar and Katie are bringing to healthcare,” Dr Dares said.

“Too often people only seek help once they’re already struggling. Phoenix is about creating a model that supports people earlier, helps them understand their health more deeply and gives them the tools and accountability to make meaningful long-term change.”

Dr Dares said the integration of medical care, movement and recovery also aligned strongly with Joint Vision’s patient-first philosophy.

“There’s a natural alignment between what we do at Joint Vision and the vision behind Phoenix. It’s about helping people move better, feel better and stay active throughout every stage of life.”

Alongside Dr Horky, co-founder Katie Horky brings more than 16 years of frontline paramedic experience and a strong passion for preventative healthcare, community wellbeing and long-term lifestyle change.

The Phoenix Health Co facility at the Bruce Gordon Centre will include:

  • medical consultation suites

  • exercise physiology-led programming

  • recovery spaces

  • sauna and contrast therapy

  • VO2 max testing

  • DEXA scanning

  • and integrated health tracking technology through the Phoenix app.

With construction progressing ahead of launch, the founders are now encouraging people interested in preventative healthcare and long-term health optimisation to register their interest ahead of opening.
